Super Ideal Diamonds, diamonds for the connoisseur

What is a super ideal cut diamond?

Put simply, it is the most perfect cut that will maximize a diamond’s sparkle.  Most high street retailers will pay less attention to the cut of a diamond and focus more on the other 3 Cs of colour, clarity and carat.  Whilst these are important attributes the cut is the key factor the will determine how much a diamond will sparkle.

There are terms such as Hearts and Arrows which help to define the quality of the cut, but the most superlative cut goes beyond what can be seen as a heart and arrow pattern.

The first point to understand is that the cut is far more than a diamond shape such as round, pear or oval, it is about the precise and accurate cutting of every single facet of face of the diamond. With a round diamond there are 11 different proportions and cut details that define how much it will reflect light and sparkle.

Some diamond retailers will talk about the proportion and depth of a diamond, but few truly understand the importance of how each facet or face of a diamond acts in conjunction with each other face to reflect light within and out from the diamond into the eye of the beholder.
The diamond cutter is faced with many choices, always they are seeking to maximize the value of the diamond.

This may mean that they will sacrifice the cut in order to achieve more carat weight.  Or may be they will reduce the carat weight slightly in order to exclude an imperfection and thus achieve a finished diamond that is internally flawless.  These are some of the many decisions facing the diamond cutter.  And as the larger market for diamonds is focused more on the maximization of carat, clarity and colour it is rare to find a super ideal cut diamond.

Two of the world’s leading diamond assessment laboratories, American Gem Society (AGS) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) have introduced cut grading for round diamonds. As a further enhancement to assessing the quality of cut it is also now possible to obtain a Sarin or Helium report (recommended by the GIA).

However whilst the gradings such as “AGS 0” or “AGS Ideal” helps to differentiate from lower quality cuts it is not yet able to measure the super ideal cut diamond, for this you need to purchase from a known source that specializes in ideal cut proportions.

At Super Ideal Diamonds we provide exclusive access to one of the world’s leading companies specializing in the idea cut of a diamond, the company is Infinity diamonds.  To put some perspective on the perfection of cut, the diamonds provided by Infinity would equal or better the cut of any other grading system.
